A friend of mine introduced me to this site, and I was completely blown away by the story and footage. Up There is about the dying art form of hand painted murals for advertising on the sides of buildings, and the artists who create them. Coincidentally, a co-worker that I sit next to is friends with one of the painters, who is featured in this film. You can learn more about the artists and their work at Colossal Media Group.
Meet Kamiko. She's my 8 month old Manx cat, and I wuv her. She's such a cuddle bug and has quickly become accustomed to being my model. I recently had the pleasure of attending jury duty (which I never got selected for, yesss!) and so used that time to fix up and post new photos of the little princess. I've posted them to my flickr account, as well as to Kamiko's very own facebook page. She loves making new friends!

Over the weekend I had the rare opportunity of going to the Apple Store to actually buy something. I ended up in the 5th Ave location and was reminded of the beauty that is Apple. All of their products, packaging, and advertising have a very clean, clear, and simply beautiful aesthetic that makes me drool. And the tiny new iPod shuffle is no exception. Two things struck me as I cradled my new purchase: the shuffle itself, and its packaging. The previous generation was so tiny that I didn't think smaller was possible, but the migration of the control dials from the unit itself to the headphones cord proved me wrong. Some people are skeptical of this approach, missing the visual ability to navigate through their tunes, but I personally think that this is a fantastic solution. I'm also glad that they got rid of the two switches from the previous generation - one for power, and the other for shuffling - and combined them all into one switch. Apple, you're so smart. And then there's the packaging. So beautiful. Please excuse the terrible photo I took... I was in too much a hurry to unwrap my shuffle to properly light and document its encasement, but let's just say that it's a testament to how Apple has a way of making each of their items, no matter how largely mass-produced, seem like your very own special treasure.
*enter sigh of happiness*.
For the first time in too long, I sent out "handmade with love" valentine's this year. As a Christmas present, my boyfriend signed us both up for a letterpress class at Studio on the Square, located in Union Square, NY. This was my first time trying letterpress and I LOVED IT. It combined three things that I really enjoy: typography, organization, and small objects.Back to the valentines - I chose Bodoni as my font, and after they were printed I added a little pink bow to each card and hand printed little xoxo's on each envelope using old wood type blocks I found in a nearby antique store for even more of a personal touch. I can't wait to make more handmade items!
